Gilbert STUDIES

Studies exists to glorify God through the fulfillment of the great commission in the spirit of the great commandment by learning the truth so that we love the truth and therefore live the truth as it is in Jesus.

Three Types of Studies

  • Foundations Studies identify a clear pathway for growing disciples to move toward maturity. Offered on a three-year rotation, they serve to lay a foundational knowledge base that is essential for every believer.

Year One: Foundations Studies focus on the habits and frameworks that shape the Christian life.

    • Habits of Grace: Spiritual Disciplines

    • Savoring Scripture: Understanding and Applying God’s Word

    • Christian Worldview

    • Christian Ethics

Year Two: Foundations Studies in Doctrine focus on the core beliefs of the Christian faith.

    • God and Revelation

    • Sin and Humanity

    • Christ and Salvation

    • Spirit, Church, and Last Things

Year Three: Foundations Studies in the Story of Redemption tells the grand narrative of God’s revelation by going book by book through the Old and New Testaments.

  • Line-by-Line Studies offer continued growth opportunities as we use exegetical and inductive study methods to analyze a biblical text and apply it to our lives. These studies offer a balanced diet from both Old and New Testaments, all genres, and a wide variety of authors. It provides a steady input of God’s words into the hearts of the church aimed at whole-person transformation.

  • Learn to Live Studies provide knowledge and understanding for how the Christian is called to live. Studies include a wide variety of topics from some of these categories:

Church Pillar Studies teach us how to walk in light of what the church is called to be and do: Unceasing Payer, Unafraid Witness and Unashamed Worship.

Historic Faith Studies provide highlights from 2,000 years of church history with a focus on how we can follow the examples of those who have gone before us.

Practical Theology Studies applies truths from God’s word to daily life. Topics like sanctification, emotions, marriage, and parenting will be the focus of some of these studies.

Christian Worldview

Foundations Study

Culture is formational. The stories we tell, the values we share, and the actions we participate in shape us. Jesus sent his followers into the world to live on mission for him, knowing that they were not part of the world. The problem is that, at times, we become so entrenched in the culture where we live that we don’t recognize how it runs contrary to Scripture. Christian Worldview will help us engage thoughtfully in the culture where we live and dialogue meaningfully as we live on mission.

Note: Workbooks will be provided with registration. Christian Ethics will follow later in the spring as a second study in this sequence.

Churchwide Study

6 weeks • Tuesdays, Jan 14–Feb 18 • 7–8:30 pm • Cost:$20 • Childcare unavailable • Room: Annex 102 • Teacher: Ryan Schmidt
